Description

**By live videoconference from Sydney**

The Global Compact Network Australia is convening an invitation-only forum on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the business case for the SDGs and how business can take practical action to advance the SDGs.

The SDGs represent a crucial opportunity for business to strengthen efforts to meet existing corporate sustainability responsibilities and commitments, and identify new opportunities to integrate sustainable development thinking into strategy.

This forum will help you get across this new global agenda and answer key questions such as:

  • What are the SDGs?
  • What do the SDGs mean for business? The SDGs are targeted at governments, so what is the private sector’s responsibility in achieving them?
  • What is the business case for taking action on the SDGs?
  • How can business practically take action? How do the SDGs fit with existing corporate sustainability strategies?
  • How can business innovate to take advantage of the opportunities the SDGs give rise to?
  • What is the role of business vis-à-vis other sectors?

Alongside the launch of the SDGs, the UN Global Compact, GRI and WBCSD will launch the SDG Compass - a practical guide for business action to advance the SDGs. This interactive forum will introduce the SDG Compass and its five-part framework for business action on the SDGs: building the business case, assessing impacts and defining priorities, setting goals, implementation and communicating impact.

** Please note: This event is by invitation only. If you did not receive an individual invitation directly from the Global Compact Network Australia, but would like to express interest in attending, please email us at secretariat@unglobalcompact.org.au **

The Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) is the Australian Network of the UN Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative. The GCNA leads, enables and connects Australian business, government and civil society to practically apply, integrate and operationalise the ten principles of the UN Global Compact, which cover the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

The GCNA provides a national and international platform for dialogue, learning and influence that is inclusive, practical and leading edge. Through its activities, the GCNA facilitates and coordinates learning, development and knowledge exchange, provides a meeting point where organisations can build best practice around corporate social responsibility and citizenship, and build relationships and parternships across the region and globe with a range of stakeholders to advance sustainable business models and markets.

The GCNA gives an Australian voice to the UN Global Compact within our own cultural and business context and comprises businesses across many sectors. Signatories range from major international companies to some of Australia’s most energetic and entrepreneurial SMEs.
