Launch of Take More Grass- History of the Williamstown Bowling Club
Event Information
About this Event
Williamstown Bowling Club’s impressive140-year history has been recorded in a new book called Take More Grass: the Story of Williamstown Bowling Club.
Commissioned by the club it has been in the worksfor almost two years. Melbourne author Carolyn Jackson was tasked with telling the story of the club, gleaned from newspaper cuttings, interviews with club members and piles of the club’s crusty old minute books. It’s a story that is sometimes surprising – this traditional club is a respected member of the Williamstown community, but has experienced its share of controversy. The book tells of struggles with the Council, struggles among members and, of course, struggles on the green. Carolyn says that she found a wealth of fascinating material to write about, but regrets that so many of the anecdotes that members related were unprintable! Club members are eagerly awaiting the launch to learn more. The launch will be preceded by the Heritage Handicap Day, a fun day of Social Bowls.
