Description

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) runs from 27th May to 3rd June 2018, with
the theme this year ‘Don’t Keep History a Mystery’.The week is a time for Tasmanians to acknowledge and explore the rich historyand culture of our Aboriginal countrymen and women, and to celebrate our sharedhistory as fellow Australians in building a modern Australia.

Reconciliation Tasmania is hosting Reconciliation Week Breakfasts across Tasmania during this week with the inaugural Breakfast to be held at the Blundstone Arena. The Keynote Speaker is Mik Gooda who will present contemporary reflections on our shared history.

All Tasmanians are invited to attend our breakfasts either in Hobart (Monday 28th May, Launceston 29th May or Burnie 30th May).

Keynote Speaker – is Mick Gooda, an Indigenous Australian of the Gangulu
people in central Queensland who in 2009 was appointed as the Australian
Human Rights Commission’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice
Commissioner. Prior to this role Mick was CEO of the Aboriginal Health

Cooperative Research Centre and a senior officer with ATSIC. Following the
infamous Dondale Detention Centre scandal, in 2016 Mick was appointed a co-
Commissioner for the Royal Commission into the Protection and Detention of
Children in the NT. The Royal Commission Report was tabled in Federal
Parliament on 17 th November 2017.
