Description

The Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute invites you and a guest to a FREE event entitled Latest Research on Dementia.

This event will consist of the latest research by one of the Baker Institute's leading dementia researchers, Dr Darren Henstridge, followed by a morning tea and a tour of our research facilities.

In an exciting new discovery, Dr Henstridge has found that a safe, new drug currently being tested in obesity and type 2 diabetes research is able to activate the protein and hopefully prevent the deterioration of Alzheimer’s disease. If the results prove successful this new approach will prolong the lives of those diagnosed with the disease so they have more quality time to spend with their loved ones before Alzheimer’s takes its heartbreaking toll.

Alzheimer's disease accounts for 70% of all causes of dementia. 1 in 10 people over 65 years and 1 in 4 people over 85 years have dementia. There is currently no cure and dementia is the third leading cause of death in Australia and the second leading cause in women (following heart disease).

Please come along to learn the latest findings and innovations in dementia research.
