This course is designed to introduce the fundamental concepts of laser science, technology, and safety, to physicians, and perioperative professionals including operating room staff, biomedical technicians, and hospital management. Clinical lasers of all wavelengths, applied to a variety of specialties, will be highlighted.
At the conclusion of the course, participants will be able to:
1) Discuss the fundamental concepts of laser science, biophysics, and tissue effects of lasers in current clinical use.
2) Identify the components of commonly used laser systems, delivery devices, and accessory instrumentation.
3) Determine hazards associated with healthcare laser systems, and appropriate control measures required of perioperative personnel.
