Description

Around Australia's Capital - The Jefferis and Whelen Journal 1926–1931

Explore the remarkable 1300 mile journey undertaken by George Jefferis and John Whelen in the Federal Capital Territory between 1926 and 1931 and captured in their journal. Discover the unique stories, photographs and illustrations about the personalities, animals, birds and vegetation in Canberra and outlying settlements including Williamsdale and Orroral, the Cotter River and Cotter Dam. Join Julia Ryan and Esther Davies from the Canberra & District Historical Society and learn about the different way of life and a landscape now much changed.

After the talk enjoy lunch at the newly refurbished Barracks Espresso Bar and Eating House at Lanyon Homestead, there will be music from 12-2pm.

This program is part of the Spring Walk and Talk Series

Hear expert talks from guest curators and commentators exploring heritage, art and landscape. If you are a bit peckish treat yourself at our newly refurbished Barracks Espresso Bar and Eating House. The Barracks will be serving up breakfast, lunch and tasty treats from 10am while “Fiddling the Books” will get your toes tapping from 12–2pm.
