Event description

Description

A full-day landscape photography workshop designed to give you the skills, confidence and inspiration to create beautiful landscape photography – including a rainforest and waterfall location shoot at the World heritage Natural Bridge.

Capturing stunning landscapes is something we all aspire to do, but often the results don't live up to the expectation.

Am I right?

The difference between generic photography and a stunning landscape photograph is implementation of some creative ideas, a deeper understanding of your equipment and lenses, and the ability to edit to your images to match your creative vision.

This intensive workshop will provide you with an excellent grasp of landscape photography fundamentals, and give you the tools and confidence to stretch your wings and create the landscape images you've always dreamed of.

The Landscape Photography Workshop Gold Coast is conducted by Andrew Thurtell m.photog, the Gold Coast’s most awarded professional photographer. Together we’ll cover:

ESSENTIAL LANDSCAPES PART 1: LEARNING TO SEE BETTER IMAGES

9.30am-11.00am

Recognising the key elements of your photograph and then learning to visually arrange them within the frame is one of the key skills of taking great photographs. In this section we will study landscape composition, with particular attention paid to:

  • The Rule Of Thirds
  • Leading Lines
  • Creating Foreground Interest
  • Using Layers and Planes
  • Understanding Horizon Placement
  • Using Frames

ESSENTIAL LANDSCAPES PART 2: TECHNICAL SKILL DEVELOPMENT

11.00am-1.00pm

After composition we move on to working through some of the key technical aspects of successful landscape captures in camera.

  • Light And The Landscape
  • Achieving Good Exposures
  • Understanding Apertures
  • Mastering Shutter Speeds
  • Focusing For Maximum Depth Of Field
  • Basic 1/3 Focusing
  • Calculating Depth Of Field (There's an App for that!)
  • Using Hyperfocal Distance
  • Filters For Landscapes

ESSENTIAL LANDSCAPES PART 3: LOCATION SHOOTS AT NATURAL BRIDGE

2.30pm-Last Light (approx 6.00pm)

This is the really fun part – we get in the air-conditioned van and as a group we head to one of the most spectacular landscape / rainforest / waterfall locations in Queensland.

Here we will spend the rest of the day shooting together and exploring all the techniques we've learnt and putting them into practice.

If you've been to any of my previous workshops, you'll know everything is explained in an easy to understand way, and will help you thoroughly understand all your cameras settings - and more importantly what they are designed to do!
