Event description
Thank you for registering your intention to walk the Lake Rhona track.

About this event

This registration system is voluntary and free, however by registering you are helping the PWS to preserve the sensitive environment on these tracks by limiting the number of walkers to the available campsites. Many sites do not have capacity to accommodate additional walkers who are camping due to the terrain and remote location.

Lake Rhona is a picturesque alpine lake with sparkling white quartzite sand beaches hidden amongst the peaks of the Denison Ranges of the Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park.

Walking in alpine areas can be an amazing experience, it is also dangerous at any time of year, especially for inexperienced walkers. Weather can deteriorate rapidly, and deaths have occurred when people have been caught unprepared.

This registration system is not a safety system. Individuals are responsible for their own safety and preparation as per the Walk Safely messages, including recording their trip intentions in the walker logbooks at the trailhead. To make the most of your trip and ensure you are well prepared please read our Safety in Parks information.

This is a moderate to advanced multiday Grade 4 - wilderness track. Phones are not to be relied upon. Only people with previous overnight bushwalking experience should attempt this track.

All walkers must carry and use a quality 3-4 season rated tent with an inner and outer layer.

A valid national parks pass is required. This can be purchased in advance online.

Please respect the natural and cultural values that make this Track part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area and follow the Leave No Trace principles.

Please ensure all of your equipment and boots are clean before commencing your walk.

Walker registration - protection of sensitive remote bushwalking tracks.

PWS has introduced a voluntary and free walker registration for several sensitive remote bushwalking tracks.

By registering you are helping the PWS to preserve the sensitive environment on these tracks by limiting the number of walkers to the available campsites. Many sites do not have capacity to accommodate additional walkers who are camping due to the terrain and remote location.

Walker registration - COVID19

Protecting the health and safety of visitors and staff is the highest priority for the PWS. Tasmania’s parks and reserves remain open across the state, with measures in place to protect our visitors and limit the spread of COVID-19. There are a number of multi-day walks where registration is required.
