Innovate or Perish?

Could a university research partnership be the missing ingredient to your company’s success? Is a lack of innovation holding your not-for-profit back?

If you’re a business person, or not-for-profit, the National Innovation Forum is not to be missed. It could help you unlock the key to success, and break down the barriers to partnering with a university on research and innovation.

In 2017 that old catch cry ‘grow or die’ may as well be ‘innovate or die.’

The Forum will kick off with a registration event starting at 6pm on 27 September at La Trobe Bundoora Campus, Victoria, in the new purposely designed La Trobe Business School building.

This will be followed by a one day forum of concurrent industry and academic speakers, case studies, exhibits, tours and master classes on 28 September at the La Trobe’s Melbourne campus (Bundoora).

Who should attend?

The Forum will be of great value to business, including start-ups and SMEs, not–for-profits, government policy-makers, and academics. It will also benefit anyone interested in pushing the boundaries of innovation and making meaningful connections with Australian universities.

What you’ll learn.

  • Ways to strengthen the local innovation system
  • The role of incubators, accelerators and TTOs (Technology Transfer Offices) in engaging startups and SMES while at the same time connecting those start up and SMES with university-industry innovation.
  • The global forces shaping opportunities for business (including startups and SMEs) over the coming decade
  • Business perspectives on the opportunities and barriers to university-industry collaboration.
  • Regulation and legal framework (patent law, licensing, federal and state jurisdictions and university policies).
  • The economic, political and societal framework in which business and/or universities operate (incentives, competitiveness, regulation, competition policy, innovation and technology policy).

By attending you will discover

  • Strengthening the local innovation ecosystem
  • How to engage universities, including points of entry and collaborative processes and pathways.
  • The available university facilities and service offerings i.e. teaching, joint R&D, potential for sub-contracting R&D arrangements, student work integrated learning placements, student secondments, problem-solving, business analytics, executive education, and human capital development.
  • Better access to knowledge, cutting edge technology, expertise and research facilities
  • Networking and collaboration opportunities
  • More about the Australian Government’s innovation policy and agenda
