ABOUT THE DAM TO DAM:
Kununurra Water Ski Club has been organising the annual Dam to Dam event for the past 40 years. This unique event has lasted the ages through hard work and commitment from the dedicated ski club committee and volunteers. The majestic river banks of the Ord River plays host to a more relaxed entertaining race for smaller outboard boats, from the dam wall of Lake Argyle to the Kununurra Water Ski Club beach located at the diversion dam wall. Competitors can choose from multiple classes to suit their vessel and engine size and it is not all about speed as the best dressed boats are acknowledged as well.
This is a race that provides a platform for both interstate and local competitors to compete alongside one another in a fun, safe, picturesque and exciting atmosphere. The race hosts a variety of classes from a standard 15hp motor all the way up to a 300cc or 30 hp modified, and it is as competitive as you make it. The Dam 2 Dam caters for the young and old, the competitive to the laidback, the local to across the globe. Aside from the individual classes there is also an Enduro event starting at KWSC Ski Beach racing to the Lake Argyle wall and back. The Kununurra Water Ski Club Dam 2 Dam is your own experience and has something for everyone.
The main race will be completed at approximately 1pm but the action does not stop here. Competitors can enter into other short course events such as the barrel race and sprint race just to name a few. This will determine who’s boat is truly the fastest of them all. The short course events are fast paced courses with sharp turns and loops that get the drivers heart racing and the spectators enthused.
Throughout the day the Kununurra Water Ski Club Committee will be putting on novelty games, children’s activities and entertainment; there is something for everyone. The club will cater a BBQ lunch followed by an open bar and live entertainment to bring in the night. Spectators can roll out a picnic blanket on the green grass of the bank of Lake Kununurra, bring your deck chairs and take in the ambience of the Kimberley. The Kununurra Water Ski Club Dam 2 Dam is not just about the boats, it is about the whole Kimberley experience.
For the adults who want an up close spectator experience they can purchase a ticket on the Champagne Cruise. The cruise is a popular component of the Dam 2 Dam; giving spectators an on course view of the race whilst taking in the breath taking views of the Ord River. Cruise guests can take in the magnificent views while enjoying a delicious selection of locally sourced foods, with plenty of beer and champagne to wash it down. Tickets are limited and will go online approximately February 2021. Stayed tuned for further information.
