About this Event

Kultura Kakaw Sound Ceremony

I am holding a very fine traditional Cacao Sound Ceremony where we will be drinking high grade quality Cacao from my island home in the Philippines. We will be sharing (sikwate which is a cup of cacao) that has been hand made from skilled tablea (cacao paste) makers directly from farmers that hold integrity from the island.

The Cacao plant was introduced to the Philippines by the Spaniards in the 1600’s when Spanish were bringing goods from Mexico. It was the first Asian country to grow cacao and because of its perfect environment and weather, the conditions allowed the cacao plants to thrive all over the islands. It is not well known, but Cacao is becoming a strong product from the islands and already exports of cacao outside the Philippines is growing.

If you would like to experience something different, real, unique and with finesse please join me at this beautiful event where traditions, culture and music collide. Not only will I be singing and sharing new music specifically coming through from the cacao, I shall also be incorporating the use of various instruments adding textures and layers.

For those that do not know me, or have not seen/heard my work before, I come from a background of music and was brought up on the small island of Cebu with medicine women from the mountains who use their music and voices to heal the sick. It is my calling to continue the traditions of the medicine women to bring knowledge and educate others the importance of upholding culture and traditions.

Joining me as special guest is Tenille Bentley who has a passion for sound as well as culture. Coming from a background of Maori and islander from the tribe of Ngaphui, her work delivers authenticity and power.

I look forward to sharing the legend of Maria Cacao, traditions, real life (magical) stories of how the cacao is one of the main staple of the islands and that this plant is truly the food of the gods.
