Module 2 explores how a teacher’s actions and perceptions of language impact on student participation and the role of code-switching.

About this event

Koorie English is a recognised and valued dialect of English that is spoken by members of Koorie communities across Victoria. It embodies cultural values, concepts and mores of Aboriginal culture, some traditional words, and non-verbal communication.

Module 2 explores how a teacher’s actions and perceptions of language impact on student participation and the role of code-switching in student success. The Learning Intention and Success Criteria for Module 2 are as follows.

Learning Intention:

• To recognise the influence of language and wellbeing on the engagement of Koorie English speaking students.

Success Criteria:

• Explain how teacher perceptions and actions influence student wellbeing and engagement.

• Identify teaching strategies that promote positive wellbeing and engagement for Koorie students.

• Explain the process of code-switching and its role in student achievement.
