Event description
Plant trees for koalas & have fun!

About this event

Enjoy a day of tree planting in the outdoors, connecting with nature and helping Koalas.

  • Spend time outdoors connecting with nature

  • Help create a new environment for koalas

  • Help to maintain Australia's natural forests

  • Help us save wild koalas in the You Yangs and on the Western Plains

UPDATE due to Coronavirus: Volunteers must bring their own gardening gloves, snacks, lunch and a reusable drinking cup for coffee or tea.

Participants will be planting trees in the outdoors.  You will be given guidance by a leader, and you can be allocated patches to plant in the company of your own family, friends, or by yourself if you wish - please let the leader know. Morning tea and lunch will be conducted sitting on logs - you may distance yourself if you wish.

From June to mid-September, we plant koala trees.  The aim of the day is to plant 1,000 trees. We allow at least 3 hours for this activity, which occurs on private properties throughout the Western Plains, west of Melbourne.

Note: Tree planting is a rewarding activity that requires some fitness, ability to walk on uneven terrain, carry equipment, bend over and use hammers.

Participants should be willing to work in all weather conditions.

Locals: $30 adults, $20 children/student/concession (Children must be accompanied by an adult)

Tourists: $120 *

This small donation goes directly back to koalas and allows us to keep doing the amazing research and hands on work we do.  The nature experience we provide is educational and unique. For more information about the volunteer costs please read this blog

The meeting place for the day will be confirmed via email closer to the date as planting is conducted in different locations. All properties are a 45min-1h drive from Melbourne CBD. As planting occurs in private properties, please meet us at the designated meeting point informed via email as we do not share the property's address.

If you can't self-drive, we offer a city transport add on to your ticket for $5. The meeting place is the Crown Promenade in Southbank. Pick up time will be confirmed closer to the date. Please arrive 10 minutes before your pick up time. We may not be able to wait for you if you are running late. Please purchase both a normal ticket and the city transport add on.

*Note: due to coronavirus we are limiting shared city transport options.

Escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, enjoy the relaxation of nature and help create new koala habitat.

Note: Koala walks are no longer offered during the planting days.

This is a subsidized event for locals, however, we welcome tourists to join and spend a day with locals. Please book the tourist ticket if you do not reside in Victoria.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

Transport from the city is available, please book the city transport add on in addition to your ticket. The meeting place is the Crown Promenade in Southbank. Pick up time to be confirmed via email. Please arrive 10 minutes before your pick up time as we do not have too much time to wait if you are running late.

Those driving themselves please check you email in the week prior for meeting point address. Please plan to arrive 5 minutes early as we cannot wait for late arrivals.

Why are tourist tickets more expensive than locals?

This is a subsidized event intended to educate locals (Victorian residents). Ticket prices do not cover costs, but are subsidized to encourage locals.  We welcome international and interstate visitors but ask that they pay the true cost of the experience, so that koalas get the maximum benefit from their visit.

Koala Clancy Foundation is a not for profit, fully registered charity. We do not get government grants to cover our costs.

What should I bring?

Drinking water, packed lunch & morning tea, reusable drinking mug, gardening gloves, sunscreen and insect repellant. Gumboots are highly recommended during Tree Planting Days. We also recommend a change of dry clothes in case it rains.

Can I participate more than once?

Yes! We always encourage volunteers to participate in as many conservation days as they can! If you've done the summer activity, why not come back in winter for some tree planting.

If you are planning on coming multiple time consider becoming a member of the Koala Clancy Foundation. This entitles you to unlimited participation in the conservation days for the year and is great value!

Membership prices: Adult $100, Family $200, Student $50. Click TICKETS to see this option or head to our KCF membership page.

How can I support from far away?

These days can only run thanks to the generosity of people like you. Your donations are very much appreciated. For $600 you can sponsor the whole day. For $100 you can sponsor a volunteer to plant trees on your behalf. For $50 you can pay for 10 trees. Click TICKETS to donate or go to our website.
