Event description
Two information sessions on Cerebral Palsy (and like conditions) for kinder teachers, daycare staff, inclusion support staff and volunteers.

About this Event

Session One - Cerebral Palsy Information Session- will cover topics including: an overview of cerebral palsy, communicating with a child with cerebral palsy; ways to enable children with severe cerebral palsy to participate actively (this will include some useful equipment); practical ideas for implementation of activities in the pre-school environment. The team presenting this information includes a physiotherapist, speech pathologist and occupational therapist. At the lunch break (12.15-1.15pm, please bring your own lunch), you will have the opportunity to meet and talk with a therapist who knows the child who is attending your pre-school or Day Care Centre.

Session Two - Augmentative and Alternative Communication- will cover the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication with children. This session is for those staff working with children who use an alternative communication method to speech, or use other types of communication as well as speech.

Feedback from previous years indicates that these sessions are invaluable for people assisting and educating a child with a physical disability and/or complex communication need. This training is offered to staff working in day care or kindergarten settings with under school aged children who are associated with CPEC.
