Part one of the three part series held on Friday 6th November saw panellists Lynda Edwards from Financial Counselling Australia and Brian Wyborn from JBWere join KinawayTV to discuss all things regarding money management. For part two of the financial series, Kinaway is pleased to welcome back Lynda Edwards as she is joined by First Nations Foundations CEO Phil Usher to provide some great insight into superannuation.

Lynda is a descendant of the Wangkumara and Barkandji people of far west NSW and is a passionate advocate for financial inclusion, fairness and financial resilience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people across Australia.
After spending more than a decade in the finance sector, Lynda joined the consumer advocacy movement. As Coordinator Financial Capability, part of Lynda’s role is to support financial capability workers across Australia and the services that employ them. An important role is around First Nations financial Literacy and to participate, collaborate, consult, advocate and lobby for any issue that impacts First Nations Peoples and Communities.
Lynda has completed the Diploma of Financial Counselling and has been involved with consultation groups around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander financial literacy, the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council, Indigenous Financial Services Network, Telstra Indigenous Advisory Committee, Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman Consumer Panel, ABA Consumer Outcomes group, Indigenous Financial Resilience Research Project with First Nations Foundation, Australian Council for International Development and the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Financial Literacy Forum, which is now in its 13th year.

Maintaining a strong connection from his childhood growing up amongst the rich culture of the Gamilaroi people in Tamworth, First Nations Foundation CEO, Phil Usher, also has family roots that make him a proud Wiradjuri man from Central New South Wales.
Fascinated by the paths of some of the world’s wealthiest people as a teenager – not the money itself, but the process of amassing a fortune – Phil harnessed this knowledge, obtaining a Bachelor of Business at the University of Newcastle before establishing an extensive career in the industry.Successful in his role as a business advisor, he now runs an investing education business offering digestible education to everyday Australians looking to build their investment portfolio.
Driven by a personal vision to empower Indigenous Australians with world-class financial education, Phil joined First Nations Foundation as Treasurer in 2017, ensuring the stringent financial foundation of processes, procedures and controls. Embodying the spirit of the national not-for-profit organisation, Phil was appointed CEO at the beginning of 2020, eager to continue using his expertise to contribute to the financial literacy and prosperity of all Indigenous Australians.
Having already helped over 1600 people across 21 communities reconnect with $24 million in superannuation since 2014, Phil played a pivotal role in the highly successful launch of the foundation’s latest initiative, ‘My Money Dream’ in 2019.
A world-first virtual financial literacy training program designed by Indigenous Australians for Indigenous Australians, ‘My Money Dream’ is fundamental to ensuring accessibility and relevance; resulting in both short and long term benefits for individuals and their communities.Using his voice and knowledge to promote the importance of First Nations Foundation, Phil is a regular finance commentator on ABC Breakfast TV and has been featured in countless industry titles.
