Event description

Description

Please join the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning for a Wilkinson Centenary Lecture by Kim Herforth Nielsen, Architect MAA/RIBA and Founder and Principal of 3XN.

3XN was founded in Aarhus, Denmark in 1986 by young architects Kim Herforth Nielsen, Lars Frank Nielsen and Hans Peter Svendler Nielsen. The three Nielsens quickly developed a reputation for creating buildings of substance with compelling aesthetics, supported by a strong theoretical foundation. This heritage continues to inform 3XN’s work today, as the studio brings its vision to clients all over the world.

Research and investigation are essential to 3XN’s design and allows the studio to push the boundaries of aesthetics and functionality. With each project standing on the shoulders of previous work, 3XN constantly evolve and develop their know-how. As they learn from project to project, the learning is applied in new ways to add lasting value to the architecture and practice.

Furthermore, working in a ‘Scandinavian way’ with a flat structure, collaboration and openness has been and still is key. Ideas are valued, not titles, as the best ideas are achieved when people with diverse professional and personal backgrounds work together in an open-minded studio setting.

It all sums up in building design that goes beyond function and is realized in iconic buildings such as Denmark’s National Aquarium Den Blå Planet, Ørestad College, Royal Arena, the International Olympic Committee’s HQ, the new Sydney Fish Market to mention a few.
