Event description

Description

A children’s workshop (parents invited to join and get creative too!) which will create dyes from nature (such as turmeric, pomegranate, avocado skin etc) and create colourful clothes.

This workshop invites young kids to participate in dying and weaving into natural fabric, or recycled pieces of clothes and understand that colours around in nature can be used to make beautiful creations of their own.

Suitable for kids aged 6 - 12 years old (under 6 welcome if supervised by an adult)

We'll provide all the materials, but if you have some old shirts or any clothes that you would like to bring and experiment with you are invited to do so. Please note that for the natural dyes to work the fabrics need to be made of natural materials such as cotton, bamboo, linum, silk etc.. but you can also bring your old pair of jeans and we can test and try.

List of materials used to create dyes:

Pomegranate
Onion skin
Avocado skin
Tumeric
Black beans

Presented as part of Pachamama Festival 2017 and supported by Inner West Council’s Open Inner West
