Description

*** Tickets on this page are for Kid Inventor Day Workshops. Tickets for Kid Inventor Day (KID) can be found here.***

Kid Inventor Day is all about getting kids excited about future technology, from virtual reality to robotics, coding to gaming. We'll also be hosting workshops in coding, robotics and more.

You may register for up to two children per workshop, per session. If you would like to register more, you will need to register again. Please only register for one workshop each session if doing multiple, as workshops during the same session run at the same time.

Workshop Info below!

WORKSHOP 1: Code Club Australia - Rainbow Predictor

Code your own rainbow!

In this project you will use the temperature and humidity sensors on the Sense HAT to predict when there’s a good chance of spotting a rainbow. When the right conditions are detected you will display a rainbow on the Sense HAT LED Matrix.

You will be writing code in the Python programming language, which you may have learnt in Code Clubs Python module.

WORKSHOP 2: The Steam EngineCo

Become a 'Master Builder'! In this workshop, participants will get to meet and build Violet, a prototype robot, from scratch without any instructions. Reckon you've got what it takes to become a Master Builder? Our philosophy? "Fail Fast, Learn Faster!"

About Violet

She's a prototype robot in her third (and counting) phase of design. She can be built piece-by-piece, comes in a range of colours and is lots of fun to code. But we need your help! We've lost the instructions to build her.

Once you've learnt to code Violet and her various sensors, she can be taken apart and be used for your very own DIY projects. A door sensor? A colour sorter? Who knows, you may even hack a new invention!

Reckon you've got what it takes to become a Master Builder?

WORKSHOP 3: Mill Park Library Makers Club

Ever wanted to learn Python so you can program your own electronic project?

Come and learn how to program the BBC Micro:bit and even make a robot talk.

Then come to our stall to see how the BBC Micro:bit is being used to keep Platypus safe in the Plenty Gorge.
