This powerful one day workshop will prepare trainees, recent fellows, staff specialists and doctors already working in a practice for the challenges involved with establishing and managing their own successful medical practice.
Our team of educational partners and industry experts will guide doctors through the process of formulating, implementing and monitoring a business and personal financial plan; and help you recognise and adopt the actions, processes and habits required to establish and maintain your desired lifestyle.

9:15am - 10:15am - Starting with the End in Mind. Understanding the mind-set required, as well as the practice development and operation strategies needed, to build a business that will have sale-able value.
10:15am - 10:30am - Morning Tea
10:30am - 11:15am - Practice Set-Up and the Role of the Practice Manager. A checklist and action plan for assessing your options with respect to buying in to or setting up your practice, and managing the process to fruition. A good practice manager is an invaluable asset, particularly during the period of practice set-up and establishment, but what exactly should this all – important role encompass, and how do you find and train the ideal candidate?
11:15am - 12:00pm - Medico-Legal Risk Management. Understanding the clear and present danger. The simple fact is – accidents will happen. You may not be able to completely avoid them, but you can be better prepared.
12:00pm - 12:45pm - Tax, accounting and business structures. Choosing an appropriate financial and business structure, accounting and taxation basics, complying with legislation, case studies and current hot topics.

2:00pm - 2:45pm - Business Risk Insurance. An overview of key risks that impact a medical practice and how insurance can be used to manage these risks
2:45pm - 3:30pm - Personal Risk, Lifestyle and Estate Planning. ‘Stuff’ happens! Why and how to design and implement your own personal and family long-term ‘safety net’ for protection against unforeseen events. The session will also cover the use of family trusts and other mechanisms to help protect your personal assets from claim, plus proper planning to minimise adverse tax effects for beneficiaries.
