Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Welcome to the Kiama Coast Dawn to Dusk Landscape Photography Experience with renowned local photographers Peter Izzard & Jon Harris.

We can't wait to take you to some of our favourite locations! Together, we will creatively capture stunning imagery of this beautiful coastline we call home.

On the day we'll have multiple shooting sessions, review some post processing techniques, discuss printing/ framing and have plenty of fun along the way!

With a maximum of 10 participants, you'll have plenty of access to pick our brains. We prefer photography related questions, but will do our best to answer anything else you throw at us ;)

Who is this experience best suited for?

Anyone with a passion for the outdoors & photography, and with an interest in improving their skills with the camera.

You love getting outdoors photographing sunrises and sunsets because they look so amazing, but then feel a little disappointed with how your shots turn out. You scroll through Instagram and Facebook, seeing amazing photos on your feed, and wish you too could consistently create amazing images!

Ideally you'll be somewhat familiar with Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom, as we'll be explaining our workflows using these programs. But this is NOT an in depth course on how to use these programs - basic knowledge is assumed.

What's included?

A wealth of knowledge!

Peter and Jon are both experienced, professional photographers with an abundance of knowledge to share! Not only that, we've also invited a special guest along to give you some valuable insight into printing and framing the images you've worked so hard to capture.

We'll provide you with course notes to take home with you for future reference.

You'll also receive an invitation to a private Facebook group where you'll be able to ask us and other participants questions as you begin to explore your new found photography skills.

We have a bus organised to shuttle us all around for the day, meaning no convoys, no people getting lost and no trying to find parking spots! So we basically meet in the wee hours of the morning, then we'll drop you back to your cars after sunset, positively buzzing with everything you've learned during the day.

We will take you to our favourite local cafe for brekky and whip up a vegetarian feast for lunch.

What will the day look like?

5.30am - 7.30am | Sunrise shoot

The early bird gets the worm! We'll meet at our first location, shoot through sunrise and the golden hour in a typical sunrise photo session on the South Coast.

8.00am - 9.30am | Breakfast

Sit back and enjoy your hard earned breakfast and (probably 2nd) coffee, as after our sunrise shoot we'll be dropping into one of Kiama's great little cafes.

9.30am - 10.30am | Day-time shoot

Sunrise and sunset are where it's at for landscape photography generally. But, we don't always have the luxury of shooting during these optimal times. Expand your photography tool-kit and explore ways to shoot creatively outside the golden hour, dabbling with filters & other techniques.

11.00am - 12.30pm | Editing session 1 + Gear recommendations

Back at the house, Peter will run through his post-production workflow using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop. He’ll also give you plenty of tips on his preferred camera gear and other equipment - why he uses what he does, and how to make the most of it.

12.30pm - 1.30pm | Lunch!

Enjoy some lovingly prepared food and chat about what you've learned so far.

1.30pm - 2.30pm | Guest presentation - Brent Rasmussen from Photomart

Brent from Photomart (based in Barrack Heights but online ordering and worldwide shipping available) is the man to talk to for all your printing and framing needs. His attention to detail is second to none, and we've never met a more helpful guy!! Brent does all our printing and framing, and after hearing him speak, you'll want him to do yours too.

2.30pm - 4.00pm | Editing session 2 + Planning a shoot

Back to the computers for a bit! Jon will run through his post-processing workflow, focussing on using Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. He’ll also walk you through how he plans a shoot to improve his chances of getting some truly epic photos.

4.00pm - 6.00pm | Sunset session

You should now be feeling supercharged to get out there and get shooting again! Now is the perfect chance to apply all your new found knowledge, and enjoy another session in the beautiful outdoors.

And that's it! We'll return you to your car, overflowing with knowledge, great photos, and memories of a magical day on the South Coast indulging your passion :)

Locations and weather

Daily conditions will dictate which locations we will be shooting at. But we'll be choosing from a shortlist of our very favourite spots in the area, including:

  • Cathedral Rocks, Kiama Downs

  • Bombo Quarry

  • Loves Bay, Kiama

  • The Kiama Coast Walk

  • The Kiama Blowhole

  • Seven Mile Beach, Gerroa

The weather, unfortunately we can't guarantee. But that's part of what makes landscape photography so fun! Every sunrise is different, no two clouds are the same. We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for a fiery sunrise and a lovely glowing sunset, and you should do the same. The day will proceed unless there is an absolute downpour forecast... at which point we'll look at rescheduling.
