The Education and Innovation Hub with Alfred Research Alliance present Prof Allen Cheng to discuss Australia’s response to COVID-19.
About Prof Allen Cheng:
Prof Allen Cheng is an infectious disease specialist and an epidemiologist. He is the Director of the Infection Prevention and Healthcare Epidemiology at Alfred Health and Professor of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology at Monash University’s School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine.
Working as an infectious diseases physician, he has worked in metropolitan, regional and remote areas of Australia, and internationally in Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Finland and the US. His research interests include major infectious diseases threats, including influenza, pneumonia, antimicrobial resistance, hospital acquired infection and emerging infectious diseases.
He has been involved in several government advisory groups, including as chair of the Advisory Committee for Vaccines, and Co-Chair of the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation. Early in the COVID-19 pandemic, he was invited to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee and several other advisory committees.
In July, Allen Cheng became the State’s acting Deputy Chief Health Officer, extending his expertise to further support the pandemic response.
