ANZAPPL NSW is delighted to welcome Ms Gail Furness SC to present on the work done by the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. Ms Furness will be discussing the learning that have come out of the Royal Commission, particularly about the impact of child sexual abuse on those abused and secondary victims. The presentation will also cover the Royal Commission’s reports on Redress and Civil Litigation, and Criminal Justice.

Light refreshments will be served.

About the Speaker

Ms Gail Furness SC was called to the Bar in 1997 and appointed Senior Counsel in 2010. She was appointed Senior Counsel Assisting the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse when it was established and commenced in January 2013.

The Royal Commission has reported on Redress and Civil Litigation as well as Criminal Justice, and its final report is due in December 2017.

Prior to being appointed to the Royal Commission, Ms Furness was counsel assisting to a number of other inquiries, investigations and commissions, including the Special Commission of Inquiry into NSW Child Protection Services in 2008, and the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority's inquiries into Sydney's Star casino. She was the Solicitor to the NSW Independent Commission against Corruption under Ian Temby QC.
