ANU/CANBERRA TIMES MEET THE AUTHOR EVENT

Katharine Murphy will be in conversation with Michelle Grattan on Katharine's new book, On Disruption. There is no way to know if the disruption will settle into a new normal, or whether chaos is the new normal.

The internet has shaken the foundations of life: public and private lives are wrought by the 24-hour, seven-day-a-week news cycle that means no one is ever off duty. On Disruption is a report from the coalface of that change: what has happened, will it keep happening, and is there any way out of the chaos?

Katharine Murphy has been Guardian Australia's political editor since 2016. She has worked in Canberra's parliamentary press gallery for 21 years for Fairfax and News Corporation, before joining the Guardian for its Australian launch. She is a regular commentator on television and radio, and hosts the political podcast, Australian Politics Live. She is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Journalism at the University of Canberra and a director of the National Press Club. Katharine has won the Paul Lyneham award for excellence in press gallery journalism, and has been a Walkley finalist twice.

Michelle Grattan AO is one of Australia's most respected political journalists. As a former editor of the Canberra Times, Michelle Grattan was the first female editor of an Australian metropolitan daily newspaper. She has been held positions with the Australian Financial Review, the Sydney Morning Herald and as Political Editor of The Age. Michelle currently has a dual role, as Professorial Fellow at the University of Canberra and as Chief Political Correspondent at The Conversation.

The vote of thanks will be given by Professor Helen Sullivan, Director of the Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU.

Pre-event book signing will be available from 5.30pm and again after the event. This event is in association with Dymocks Canberra and books wll be available to purchase.
