Event description

Description

Jump Up Occupational Therapy Parent Information Series aims to provide practical skills to help parents understand and support their children.

Your child’s attitude towards and ability to write can have an enormous impact on their attitude towards school, performance in class and self esteem. You should consider attending, if your child:

  • Dislikes or refuses to write

  • Is unable to complete written work in the time required

  • Produces written work that starts neatly but deteriorates quickly

  • Complains of a sore hand or muscles when writing

  • Swaps the pencil from one hand to another while writing

  • Starts writing in the middle of the page and/or has no awareness of placing letters on lines

  • Forms their letters incorrectly.

This practical information session aims to give you ideas and strategies to support your child/ren to master the mechanics of handwriting. We will also consider:

  • What are we aiming for when it comes to handwriting? What are the qualities that make a competent writer?

  • What are the background skills necessary to become a competent writer?

  • The stages of writing

  • The impact of technology on writing – swiping, typing and writing.

Handwriting is one part of a five part parent information series presented by Jump Up Occupational Therapy. Discounts apply if you register for the complete series at once. If you would like to register for the complete five part series at the discounted rate of $200 (save $50), please email Polly at admin@jumpupot.com.au
