Opening Night of Josh Lord’s exhibition “Newspeak & Thoughtcrimes” at the Ministry of Art opens on Saturday the 15th of October 6:30pm at Ministry of Art 238 St. Kilda Rd, St. Kilda 3182.
'Newspeak & Thoughtcrimes at the Ministry of Art', Josh Lord holds up a mirror and asks the important questions. Is this who we are? Are we truly a voiceless, meaningless generation? Is this what we want to leave for the future? Will they see great works expressing struggles, triumphs, joys and sadness? Or will they see something that simply resembles the Fourth Circle of Dante’s hell.
Orwell once stated "If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face -forever". The boot stamping on the human face isn't the totalitarianism we thought it was going to be, but a dystopian future of Capitalist greed and avarice over disposable consumer goods. Will the future generations inherit our silence?
Ollie Olsen (Taipan Tiger Girls/NO) + Ash Wednesday (Einsturzende Neubauten). They will be supported by Melbourne based industrial outfit KOLLAPS, a yowling post-punk guitars scramble over dense industrial drones, the uneasy textures bound by percussive non-instruments like scrap metal and raw plastics. The disquiet of Kollaps’s debut EP “Heartworm” unfolds in an atmosphere of both nihilism and romance, as the band dissect the twin human miseries of mortality and existence; death and love."
