Event description

Description

The Yarraville Community Centre, in partnership with Permaculture Out West, present a forum to explore urban agriculture and green infrastructure in the City of Maribyrnong. We've mapped relevant policies and practices and will present our findings at this forum. We're seeking your input to help us identify what we've missed, what your success and challenges have been, and what future directions you believe would support and encourage urban agriculture in the Maribyrnong municipality.

** Booking is free and a light lunch will be provided. **

Background to the "Joining the Dots" project:

Permaculture Out West and Yarraville Community Centre are undertaking a project, funded by the City Maribyrnong, to bring together the key stakeholders to map the network, identify systemic links (existing and emerging) between organisations, explore sustainable governance models and resource sharing as well as the potential for future community strengthening project partnerships.

With future food security, social connectedness and urban heat stress being just some of the many concerns facing the Maribyrnong community in a rapidly changing climate, connecting the dots to optimize future-proofing at the local level is critical. This project seeks answers to:

• Who’s who in the zoo and what role do they play?

• What are the governance structures underpinning the groups within the network and is there potential to share resources and intelligence?

• What’s happening on the ground now?

• Where are the synergies?

• What’s planned and what’s not?

• What are the emerging opportunities and how can we harness them?

• What are the gaps, if any, within the current structure?

• What are the research and monitoring needs and who can/should be involved?

Working at a neighbourhood level, anticipated outcomes include better communication, knowledge and resource exchange between stakeholders, with the potential for some significant and sustainable project work to be undertaken within the Maribyrnong catchment through a joined-up approach.
