Description

Welcome to the next JeneScreen information and testing evening.

** PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE FROM RICHMOND TO MALVERN **

Please note that testing is only available to adults who are 18 years of age or above.

The ticket numbers are limited so we can ensure that all attendees can access testing on the night, if they choose to do so.

If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend, please let us know promptly so that someone else can be given the opportunity to attend the session.

We will be holding events regularly, so if you miss out on this one, keep your eye out for the next event.

FAQs

What is JeneScreen?

JeneScreen is a community BRCA testing program, which enables all eligible members of the Jewish community to be tested for the three most common faults in the BRCA genes, and is being carried out as a research study. This testing is being offered to all eligible Jewish people for free, irrespective of a known family history of cancer.

Who is eligible to participate in the study?

You are eligible to participate in this study if you

  • Are 18 years or over
  • Have at least one Jewish grandparent
  • Live in Melbourne
  • Have not previously undergone BRCA testing
  • Are not aware of any family members being identified as having a BRCA fault
  • Have not been diagnosed with cancer within the last 12 months (other than non-melanoma skin cancer)

Is this study just for women?

No, men and women can both inherit BRCA faults and both men and women are encouraged to participate in the study.

What will happen at this event?

All information about the research study and genetic test will be presented to you by a genetic counsellor at this information session. If you are eligible and choose to have testing, DNA will be collected through a cheek swab. This can be done immediately after the information session, or you can take the DNA collection kit home and mail it back to us.

Can I have the testing without attending an event?

No, you must attend an information session and consent to be a participant in the research study before you can have the genetic testing.

How can I find out more information or contact the organizsr with any questions?

Head to www.jenescreen.com.au for more information about the study or to contact the Melbourne study co-ordinator directly.
