Event description

Description

Join local legend and jellyfish expert Dr Lisa-ann Gershwin as she dives head first into her favourite subject- jellyfish, at BeakerStreet@TMAG, a pop-up science bar at the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, 18-20 August. You'll be amazed at all there is to discover about these beautiful but much-maligned creatures of the deep. Make sure to catch Lisa again on Saturday night (19 August) when she'll be showing off her impressive jellyfish collection and answering all your jellyfish questions in TMAG's historic Bond Store Basement.

About the speaker:
Dr Lisa-ann Gershwin describes herself as a scientist, writer, and Aspie.
In 1992, Lisa fell in love. The moment happened on the 22nd of December at the Cabrillo Marine Museum where she witnessed the majesty of jellyfish in tanks. That moment sparked a love affair with jellyfish that still burns bright to this day. Lisa has been awarded a Fulbright for her work on jellyfish blooms, named and classified the largest invertebrate discovered in the 20th century, discovered a new species of dolphin, authored two books, Stung! On Jellyfish Blooms and the Future of the Ocean (2013) and Jellyfish: A Natural History (2016) and launched The Jellyfish App. Lisa is based in Hobart and is the Director of the Australian Marine Stinger Advisory Service.
