Event description

Description

Intent Journal and Merchant Road are very excited to invite you to the Jefferson Conversation series! Join us for an evening of delicious food, wine, and meaningful conversation.

Merchant Road is an events and catering for-purpose business, with a love of food and genuine passion for providing the generosity, warmth, and welcome of traditional hospitality. We are co-hosting the Jefferson Conversation Series in partnership with businesses and creative enterprises whose work we respect and admire. Our first series is focused on women-led organizations who are pushing the boundaries in their respective fields and building stronger networks around the issues they care about.

Merchant Road works with a not-for-profit, Brewing for Change, to help provide paid training opportunities to young refugees who are currently unemployed. The traineeships are a life-changing opportunity for the young people we work with. Proceeds from the evening will go to Brewing for Change to support more paid training and work opportunities for our trainees.

The conversation series is based on the Jefferson Dinner style of gathering, with approximately 14 guests seated at a communal table, having the one conversation about a topic of common interest. At Jefferson Dinners, instead of chatting to the person next to you, you address the whole table. It is an opportunity to exchange ideas and meet new people in a warm, welcoming environment.

We are really excited to be partnering with Sigrid McCarthy, the founding editor-in-chief of Intent Journal: a publication that questions the current fashion system and explores its environmental and social impact. Embracing transparency and a respect for process, Intent encourages us to consider garment origin and lifecycle, as well as the impact we all have via the simple act of dressing.

This evening's discussion will delve into the role fashion plays in our lives and the collective responsibility we all possess to drive positive change in the garment industry. Finer details regarding the conversation topic will be sent to participants prior to the evening, but we welcome you to come with as many questions as answers!

Tickets are limited to 14 guests and include a 3-course meal created especially for the night, wine, and a promise that you will leave with lots to think about and perhaps even having made some new friends!
