Freshly brewed:   HENRY MANETTA

From the Adelaide avant-blues band Precious Memories to Melbourne and his current band of soul/jazz mavericks Henry Manetta and the Trip, featuring remarkable pianist Adam Rudegeair, Henry has shared stages with Wendy Saddington, Paul Kelly, Jo Camilleri, The Twoks, Harry Angus, Steve Sedergreen and Clare Moore amongst others. With a voice described by SynFM as 'a mystical combination of Tom Waits and Nina Simone' by Inpress as a 'body-bending full throttle funkesque throat' and by The Age as 'transcendent' Henry’s debut album ‘Shiver’ was recorded with a line up that included Australian jazz/blues legends Bob Sedergreen and Geoff Kluke, and was released in 2001.

The first Trip album ‘Bijou Box’ was released in 2004 and launched at the original Dizzy’s in Melbourne, followed by shows in Adelaide and Sydney. The Trip has opened for Renee Geyer, regularly feature at both the Melbourne and Adelaide Fringe Festivals and has performed an entire show dedicated to the music of Sun Ra. They have worked with the new spoken word movement in shows such as ‘Erosophy,’ and performed at fortyfivedownstairs in a tribute to Nina Simone.

In their home universe of Melbourne Henry and Adam can frequently be found at the Paris Cat and launched their third album ‘Sexjazz’ at Bennetts Lane, followed by a tour through Sydney, Brisbane and Adelaide.  Henry joined Ruth Rogers-Wright, Chelsea Wilson and Adam Rudegeair for a sold out season of 'Heart Of A Woman - A Tribute To Etta James' at the Butterfly Club which was reprised at Pure Pop and The Soul Box. Henry and Adam appeared with the legendary Wendy Saddington in her last major concert in Melbourne in December 2012.  Recently Henry performed at The Melbourne New Orleans Mardi Gras and Stonningtom Jazz Festival with Adam Rudegeair's Bayou Tapestry, and at The Toff In Town for Prince's Birthday Celebration with Adam's funk cyclone Lake Minnetonka.

"Henry Manetta's set was a truly impressive tour-de-force showing off his extraordinary expressive range." www.skylashes.com.au
