Description

From Basics to Pattern Transfer: Intensive Workshop & Lunch

Slip off your shoes and enter a world that is distinctly Japanese for this introduction to sashiko, a traditional Japanese needlework, at Shizuka Ryokan. Leanne O’Sullivan of Kimono House Japanese Textiles & Craft will guide you in this relaxing and enjoyable workshop and our Japanese team will host you for a delicious and traditional lunch.

The morning starts with Leanne explaining the history of sashiko with samples from her collection. We will then cover the basics of technique for this simple but very effective decorative stitching using Japanese materials and equipment as you stitch your own piece.

In the afternoon we will move onto pattern transferring as we explore the different tools and method options for transferring your own traditional and contemporary patterns onto cloth.

An informative class and fun for those who enjoy hand-stitching.
