Join Abbey Road Institute and Jan Rosenthal for a Masterclass on FOH acoustics and microphone techniques.

Jan Rosenthal is a professional audio engineer with over 20 years’ experience. Beginning his career in Germany, Jan worked with many well-known artists including Udo Lindenberg and Udo Juergens. He toured regularly throughout Europe as a freelance FOH Engineer for bands and musicals, doing recording and sound-enhancing work for the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra.

For the past 14 years Jan has worked with the Sydney Opera House as a FOH Engineer (mixing for Reggie Watts, Doug Parkinson, Patti Smith, Dianne Reeves, Brian Eno, Lou Reed, Burt Bacharach, Natalie Cole, George Benson, Bill Callahan); Monitor Engineer (mixing for Kamasi Washington, Ice Cube, Kurt Vile, Mazzy Star, Sufjan Stevens, Angelique Kidjo, Esperanza Spalding), and Systems Engineer (system engineered for Herbie Hancock, Tony Bennett, Erykah Badu, Martha Wainwright, Joan Baez).

Jan mixes FOH for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and has mixed for every Vivid Sydney Festival since its inception in 2009.

In this Masterclass, you'll get to know FOH engineering, mixing and acoustics. You'll leave with an in-depth understanding of microphone types, applications and practice, including stereo, surround sound microphone techniques.
