Event description

Description

An exploration of the geology, climate, flora and fauna of the parts of the Dandenong Ranges that few people know about. Led by Dr Graeme Lorimer.

Saturday, 27th January 2018 (on the Australia Day long weekend)

Attend any or all of three activities:

3 pm: Meet at the Burke’s Lookout hang-glider launch site next to the Channel 7 TV tower. First, a discussion about geology, climate and vegetation ecology, then an easy walk to see (and in one case, eat) a range of flora and fauna species, followed by a moderately steep walk on a vehicle track, then a steep, rocky scramble. If you wish, you can opt out of the steep bits and enjoy the birds and scenery until the intrepid explorers retrace their steps.

7 pm: Optional: head to a restaurant in Olinda or Mount Dandenong to share dinner. Venue to be announced.

9 pm: Moonlit spotlighting for nocturnal animals such as Greater Gliders
