Description

The presentation will give an overview of the history of Italian settlement in South Australia in the context of Italian migration in the 19th and 20th centuries. It will consider their reasons for migrating to South Australia and their settlement patterns with a particular focus on the Port Adelaide area, and the influence they had on Australian society.

Daniela Cosmini-Rose is Senior Lecturer in Italian in the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences at Flinders University. Her research interests are in Italian migration to Australia, ageing in a foreign land and material culture. She has published numerous scholarly articles nationally and internationally and has edited the volume Ageing Between Cultures: The Experiences and Challenges of Italian Migrants in South Australia.
