Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Did you know that Israel has become an emerging hub for startups and innovation? More than $4.8 billion USD has been invested in Israeli based startups in 2016 alone. Multinationals such as Honda, Shell, GE, and Adidas are rushing to collaborate and invest in these Israeli companies.

What is the driving the success of this country’s innovation ecosystem?

How has a country of just over 8 million managed to become a hub for innovation?

Witness an in-depth experience on how the stakeholders in Israel have been able to propel their country into the startup spotlight.

What you’ll learn:

- How Israel transformed itself into a leader in tech startup and innovation (BTW, we recommend you read Startup Nation).

- What the government is doing to send your startup there through their Israel Calling program!

- How sophisticated investors can use equity crowdfunding, to tap into Israeli investment opportunities once reserved for big players like venture capital firms.

Our Amazing Speakers

Matthew Jessop, Senior Policy and Project Officer at NSW Trade and Investment

Having graduated with first class honours in political science, Matthew has previously worked for "Transport for NSW", before moving to the Department of Premier and Cabinet (trade & investment)

Israel Calling is an opportunity to tap into the global innovation of Tel-Aviv, the heart of “Silicon Wadi.” You can have the opportunity fist hand to see Tel Aviv Landing Pad. The NSW Government, in collaboration with Austrade, is offering up to ten NSW cyber security and fintech startups the opportunity to take part in an intensive accelerator program.

Matthew will be explaining the program and fielding any questions.

Dan Bennett
Managing Director, Australia & Asia at OurCrowd, a hybrid of venture capital and crowd investing.

Dan started his career as a lawyer and after some time at Minter Ellison moved into roles in innovation-driven companies such as Infigen Energy, before spending the last 6 years in the VC/private equity funds management sector.

OurCrowd is the leading venture capital - crowdfunding platform for investing in the Israeli technology startup sector. It democratised the VC market by providing a carefully diligenced and curated set of startup investments. Total investment is aggregated across investors ('our crowd'), who individually invest any amount (above USD$10,000), to access attractive deal terms.

Starting in early 2013, investors from over 100 countries have invested over $500 million in over 100 portfolio companies across various sectors. OurCrowd leads each deal by co-investing alongside the investor.
