Level 1 technician - restricted profile (three day course)

The International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) has defined and approved a four-level hierarchical international anthropometry accreditation scheme, which is now taught in over 40 countries world-wide. Its foundation principle is the objective maintenance of quality assurance of measurements by requiring that all levels of ISAK practitioner meet accuracy and reliability criteria in the form of end of course examinations and the completion of post course profiles.

Level 1 three day course curriculum structure

▪ Total time 40 hrs: 6 hrs theory, 18 in-course practical including the successful completion of a practical examination (80% minimum) in the presence of a Level 3 (Instructor) or Level 4 (Criterion) Anthropometrist. Additionally, 16 hours post-course practical time to collect 20 restricted profiles.

▪ Level 1s have 4 months from the date of their practical examination to submit their 20 repeat profiles.

▪ Candidates will have until the 23rd of July 2021 to submit the required 20 restricted profiles.

▪ Accreditation is valid for a period of 4 years

The 2019 ISAK publication, “International Standards for Anthropometric Assessment” will be provided to course participants and is included in course fees. Additionally, and as an optional extra, you may wish to purchase a copy of:

Level 1 reaccreditation course structure (one day)

Participants must undertake this one-day reaccreditation course prior to expiry of their Level 1 accreditation period (4 years since last accreditation/ re-accreditation) to maintain currency of their Level 1 qualification. Reaccreditation focuses on reviewing and updating land-marking and measurement techniques of a current Level 1 technician. Participants will be advised of any changes to land-marking or measurement techniques within the restricted profile (Level 1) since they completed their Level 1 course and will be required to undertake at least one profile on a volunteer. This will be reviewed by a Level 3 anthropometrist in the morning, prior to sitting the practical exam in the afternoon. Successful reaccreditation is based upon participants continuing to meet accuracy and reliability criteria in the form of the end of course examination plus within 4 months, completion of post course 20 repeat profiles.

Dress requirements

This course is a practical ‘hands-on’ course. During the practical sessions you will be acting as a subject for other course participants. Please bring appropriate clothing (bike shorts/knicks, t-shirt, two piece swimsuit, sports bra) to change into for the practical sessions. Separate male and female assessment areas will be made available.

Please bring your own lunch. A light morning / afternoon tea will be provided with some gluten-free options available, however for strict dietary requirements, please bring your own snacks.

Presenter: Associate Professor Gary Slater PhD Qld., MSc Qld., GDNutDiet Qld., BSc Qld

Gary is an advanced accredited sports dietitian and has worked in elite sport since 1996. He shares his time between his roles as National Performance Nutrition Network Lead within Performance Networks and Partnerships of the Australian Institute of Sport, and coordinator for the Master’s of Sports Nutrition at the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Gary has consulted to a number of professional teams and a wide array of individual elite and recreational athletes, supporting their sporting ambitions. His professional interests relate primarily to enhancing sports performance. He is particularly passionate about factors influencing muscle protein metabolism and muscle hypertrophy/atrophy, nutritional ergogenic aids, nutrients timing and the influence of body composition on sports performance.

Gary is an International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK) level 3 instructor and Australian New Zealand Bone Mineral Society (ANZBMS) clinical densitometry technician. His publications include over 100 manuscripts in peer reviewed journals and book chapters.
