Description

What: This is a 2-day workshop that uses a Human Rights approach to supporting behaviour.

Who: This workshop is for Families of people with disabilities, support workers, service providers and allied health practitioners.

Where: Club Macquarie, Argenton (Newcastle, Lake Macquarie area)

When: 9:30am to 4:30pm Thursday 19 & Monday 23 September 2019

Costs: Full rate: $583,21 (incl. tax and ticket fee) for Professionals

Concession: $202,06 (incl. tax and ticket fee) for Family members and support workers (who attend with the family of person they are supporting). You may be able to claim the cost of this workshop from your family member’s NDIS plan. For more details contact Linda Hughes: linda@cdah.org.au

The workshop will explore:

- challenging behaviour and why some people can be very complex to support
- the many different approaches to behaviour support and how to decide what’s best for the person you love or support
- what the current research says
- which teaching methods work best for people experiencing challenging behaviour
- how we understand and support communication
- what is restrictive practice and how we can make better decisions about its use
- what does a good behaviour plan look like and how can we make safer plans for better long term outcomes?
- how families and services can get on the same page

The presenter:
Jaquie Mills lives in WA and is a leader in supporting positive behaviour and communication. Jaquie is the parent of four children, two with disability. Jaquie has a Master of Education in the area of Emotional Intelligence and has led sector reform in the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices. Jaquie led the development of post graduate studies at Edith Cowan University in complex communication needs and understanding the complex reasons for challenging behaviour for people with disability. Jaquie is also the managing director of Microboards Australia.
