What:
Presentation: By Frederic Tricoche, Principal Systems Manager, Transport for NSW on "TfNSW’s ATP Project"

Transport for NSW (TfNSW) is Reducing the network risk profile across the electrified Sydney Metropolitan rail network and electrical fleets by delivering the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) program.

The ATP Project is based on European Train Control (ETCS) Level 1 architecture and use of the Limited Supervision (LS) mode which will provide over speed protection, supervision approaching high risk turnouts, deficient overlaps and buffer stops. Finally, ATP strategic outcome is to provide a migration path to Digital system program with ETCS Level 2.

The ATP program is unique in its implementation and scale, involving several ETCS suppliers for on-board equipment, and TfNSW serving as the system integrator (on-board, trackside, operations and staff). There are also key business transformations for Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink as operators and maintainers of the network assets.

ATP recently achieved revenue service on the OSCar fleet, now operating between Newcastle Interchange and Cockle Creek in ETCS Level 1 LS.

ATP is to be rolled out across the Sydney Metropolitan electrified network, and electric passenger trains operated by Sydney Trains and NSW TrainLink and this presentation is to give an overview of the various stages of the project from development to roll out phases, as well as key challenges faced by a major brownfield transport project.
