Event description

Description

“Ageism is everywhere, yet it is the most socially ‘normalized’ of any prejudice, and is not widely countered – like racism or sexism.” - World Health Organization

The young openly mock the elderly. Everyone feels a right to insult generations born after them.

Severe neglect and abuse in our aged care homes led the Prime Minister to announce a Royal Commission into the sector that will also investigate how young Australians with disabilities living in residential care are treated.

We regard minors as undeserving of autonomy. We bemoan millennials for being lazy and entitled. We say baby boomers are spoiled and out-of-touch. We see through the elderly and their extensive lifetimes of experience.

How do we tackle a prejudice as pervasive as ageism?
