Simon Breheny, Director of Policy, is excited to invite you to the Institute of Public Affairs’ Young Members End of Year Drinks with Dr Peter Ridd, Professor of Physics at James Cook University in Townsville.
Peter will be telling us his story, which is about the pursuit of truth and the importance of standing by your conscience. Peter took on his bosses at James Cook University with a critical examination of research conducted by other staff members on the Great Barrier Reef. He stood by his findings which called into question the popular narrative of catastrophic threats to the Reef’s ecosystem.
In a time of academic censorship and campus intolerance of challenging ideas, we should all look to Peter as an example of why we must stick to a principled approach, particularly when it comes to science.
We will also hear from entrepreneur and philanthropist Dr Bryant Macfie about his journey – from emigrating to Australia, then starting his own business, until today where he is able to give back to the country that gave him so much. Bryant wants to encourage you and talk with you about the opportunities our wonderful country has provided him.
These drinks will be an exciting opportunity to engage with Peter and Bryant, and a great chance to meet and network with IPA Young Members and supporters of Generation Liberty. This is also the closing event of Generation Liberty’s 2016 program.
Numbers are limited so get in early to avoid disappointment!
