About this Event

Find out about the role of publishing in today’s academic environment, how to decide what publications are right for your research, and what new developments such as open access and e-books mean for academics and researchers.

Editors William Achauer (Springer), Nick Melchior (Springer), and Alison Fitches (Adis) will present on the following topics:

  • Introduction & Our fields of coverage•
  • The benefits of publishing books for authors•
  • The book publication process•
  • Various book publication types•
  • Avenues of book dissemination, including OA•
  • Trends and new technologies in book publishing•
  • Journals publishing

Your Presenters:

William Achauer is Editorial Director - Books. William is a Board Director of Springer Nature Singapore Ltd., where he is based. His remit covers Business/Management, Economics, Finance, Politics, Applied Statistics, and Law, across Greater China, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia and Australia/New Zealand, as well as South Asia (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka). He manages a team of publishing editors based across the region who acquire and commission books for both the Springer, as well as the Palgrave Macmillan, imprints. William has 15 years of experience at Springer Nature, both in publishing and marketing.

Nick Melchior is Springer’s Melbourne-based Executive Editor for Social Sciences Education Research books. He manages a global team of editors who actively commission monographs, edited collections, reference works, textbooks and book series. He joined Springer in 2013 and has worked in Scholarly and Professional publishing for nearly 15 years with previous positions at Blackwell and Wiley. He serves on the Scholarly and Journals Committee of the Australian Publishers Association.

Alison Fitches is an Auckland based Editor and is part of the Springer Nature Adis publications team. She is Editor-in-Chief of the journal Molecular Diagnosis & Therapy and is also a Section Editor for the Adis journal Drugs, Drugs & Aging, Pediatric Drugs and CNS Drugs, covering Pain & Anaesthesia, Nephrology & Urology and Ophthalmology. She joined Springer Nature 5 years ago, after spending 15 years at the University of Otago, latterly as a Lecturer teaching genetics and molecular diagnosis.
