Event description

Description

With the gender pay gap still prevalent today, women can face an uphill battle to stay ahead of the game financially.

That's why it's particularly important for women to understand their worth, be able to negotiate effectively, and then manage their finances optimally.

In a recent survey completed by 'economic Security4Women (eS4W)', Australian women are paid almost 18 percent less per week than their male counterparts. The financial disparity is even more evident in retirement, with women’s account balances (on average) less than half of men's.

Why is this the case? There is evidence that women lack confidence to effectively negotiate a salary commensurate with their woth to their employer and for cultural reasons, feel uncomfortable asking for a pay rise.

There is also an expectation on women to take time out from full-time work to care for family, they can suffer inequitable divorce settlements, and have higher average living costs.

The real evidence of the financial gender gap is compounded in retirement by the fact that women tend to live an estimated five to six years longer than men.

In this workshop you will learn the skills to negotiate with your employer and bridge the gender pay gap.

In this workshop, you will be given some guiding principles to establish a financial plan to help you build your wealth for a comfortable future – no matter what stage of life you are in.

This workshop will be led by Glenda Abraham, Chief Engagement Officer with Mine Wealth and Wellbeing, a resources sector superannuation fund.

Glenda is a senior executive with more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services sector. She has held executive and management roles with a proven record of commitment across financial advice, operations and customer engagement focussed roles. Her previous roles have included blue-chip financial services organisations such as Westpac Financial Advice, Commonwealth Bank and AMP.

Mine Wealth + Wellbeing was established from a merger between the Coalsuper Retirement Income Fund (COALSUPER) and the Queensland Coal and Oil Shale Mining Industry Superannuation Fund (QCOS). Mine Wealth + Wellbeing was previously known as AUSCOAL Super.
