Event description
An introductory mountain biking skills and mechanical course for women.

About this event

The Rats Chick Ride from the RATS Cycling Club in partnership with Mountain Bike Coaching Brisbane is pleased to make available this introductory course to provide an opportunity for women with limited or no mountain biking experience to try the fun and social sport of mountain biking.

The course is aimed at women wanting to learn mountain biking, for women new to the trails, and for women wanting to try a new way to exercise and enjoy the outdoors.  The course will be run in a safe and supporting environment by two highly qualified and experienced coaches and is proudly supported by the Queensland Government Bike Riding Encouragement Program community grants scheme which has assisted to keep the costs to a minimum.

The course comprises 2x 2-hour sessions, for women only, with or without your own bike. Bike loan is available for only $10 additional when you register and is limited to the first 10 that require bikes and only available for the course sessions. Select "bike required" in the registration section below if desired. This will cover the use for both sessions of the course.

What does the course content cover?

The course starts at the very basics of riding a bike and is primarily held on a flat grassy area. By the end of the two sessions, you will understand and be able to perform the basics of trail riding, including body position, braking, cornering, inclines, declines and basic obstacle crossing. We will also have ridden on easy dirt trails preparing you to take your adventures further at your own pace.

Please note that the first session is a prerequisite for the second session. Thus you cannot miss the first session for whatever reason and expect to complete the second session as the course content is additive. Thus if you are sick or injured then please make contact with us ASAP so as we can advise on the best course of action.

The course also includes a bike mechanical basics session as before the session 2 trail ride. This will be with Sheryl from MTB Mechanic and will provide information on pre-riding tips, transporting your bike and general maintenance tips and techniques.

Who are the Coaches?

The Coaches for this course will be Mark Routledge and Mark Watts, well known for their SheRides and other women's specialist coaching. We invite you to read the reviews on their Facebook page by their previous participants.
