This course is run as 3 Modules:
Module1: Physics, Abdomen, Male Pelvis
Module2: Small Parts (Breast, Testes and Thyroid) and Female Pelvis (1st Trimester)
Module 3: Vascular.To attend Modules 2 and 3 requires an assumed knowledge of Ultrasound physics and some scanning skills.If you would like to attend Modules 2 and/or 3 and don’t have the required scanning skills, please speak to our staff at ASMI and we can arrange some tuition prior to the commencement of the course.
Module 1 − Upper Abdomen and Male PelvisCourse Description This small group intensive course is designed specifically for Radiology Registrars and Radiologists and any practitioners who would like to become proficient in the basic concepts of Ultrasound scanning.The course will cover an introduction into the Physics of Ultrasound, Basic Doppler, Artifacts, Knobology and instrumentation, the Abdomen and Male Pelvis.The emphasis is on developing practical diagnostic scanning techniques, navigational skills and an understanding of the normal and abnormal pathological sonographic patterns and appearances, image documentation, measurements and reporting.The small group structure ensures a collaborative and supportive learning environment, utilising a mixture of didactic lectures and real-time scanning techniques. High quality equipment is used in conjunction with scanning models and phantoms, ensuring consolidation of practical scanning skills.
Module 1 − Curriculum
- Physics and Instrumentation
- Introduction to Basic Colour and Spectral Doppler
- Probe orientation and manipulation techniques
- Ultrasound terminology
- Upper Abdomen including Aorta, Pancreas, Liver, Gallbladder, CBD, Kidneys and Spleen
- Abdominal vasculature
- Bladder and Prostate
- Normal and abnormal pathological appearances
- Image documentation and measurements
- To provide participants with an overview of Ultrasound Physics, colour and Spectral Doppler and artifacts associated with Ultrasound
- Provide an understanding of basic ultrasound system optimisation
- Ultrasound anatomy and pathological appearances
- Provide the techniques and scanning skills required to maximise diagnostic ability
- Provide an understanding of the protocols required in all aspects of examinations discussed
Participants in Module 1 will be well-prepared to continue to Modules 2 and 3.
