Event description

Description

The WHO Collaborating Centre for Viral Hepatitis is hosting a week-long course on Introductory Analysis of Linked Health Data. The course will be delivered by Professor David Preen the Chair in Public Health at the School of Population and Global Health, The University of Western Australia.

The course will run from 8-12 July 2019, and will comprise lectures and technical sessions. The course is suitable for individuals that have a basic familiarity with computing syntax used in programs such as SPSS, SAS or Stata and methods of basic statistical analysis of fixed-format data files. Exercise solutions will be provided for all three packages.

There are no formal prerequisites for the course. However, it is recommend that participants who have not previously completed an introductory course in epidemiology, familiarise themselves with the basic principles and terms used in that discipline. A working knowledge of statistical concepts, including regression models, used in data analysis in the medical and social sciences is assumed.

Participants will need to bring a laptop with their preferred statistical software package installed. Assistance in the tutorials will be available for STATA and SPSS users (and possibly SAS if a sufficient number of users register).

Printed and electronic versions of the course material will be provided. Morning tea and lunch will also be provided. Topics covered in the course include:

  • Introduction to data linkage systems
  • Characterising populations using linked data
  • Measuring health and services using linked data
  • Outcomes reserach using linked data
  • Risk adjustment using linked data
