Proudly supported by the following industry partners
More than ever, executives and managers are realising that the User Experience (UX) of their products and services is crucial to the bottom line, and that that experience can be designed. As a result, it’s not only UX designers that are in demand—being able to "talk the lingo" of UX has become a necessity for doing business. The ability to leverage basic UX techniques is helping professionals in a range of disciplines be more attuned to their customer, more empowered to communicate, and more energised by their work.
What you'll learn in this workshop
This workshop is an opportunity for participants to:
- learn what User Experience (UX) is, and its importance in the design of products and services
- understand what a UX process looks like, and the principles behind user-centred design.
- gain exposure to a range of UX techniques, such as creating personas, storyboards, wireframes and prototypes, as well as conducting contextual enquiry and user testing sessions.
- practice applying some of these techniques to the design of a product or service.
Who this is for
This workshop is for anyone who wants to understand more about UX—web designers, graphic designers, developers, business analysts, entrepreneurs … if you’re involved in the design of a product or service, you can’t afford to not be across this stuff. Whether your goal is to apply some UX techniques to a personal project, be able to champion UX within your organisation, to gain increased confidence when working with or hiring UX designers, or to become a UX designer yourself, this workshop is the perfect launchpad.
Description of activities
This workshop will be very hands-on. While there will be some theory for each section, the majority of the time will be spent by participants working on their own or in groups, applying their new-found knowledge. Activities are based on a real-life case study.
Attendees will receive summary sheets and activity sheets to take home and use as a reference in their own projects.
Bonuses for attendees
In addition, attendees to this workshop will receive the following bonuses:
1 x 1 hour consultation
Make a time with either Matt or Luke up to 6 months after the workshop date for a one-on-one chat about your current design problem, your career, your portfolio, or anything else UX-related that we can help with.

What other people say about this workshop
Here's some feedback we received from attendees of a recent workshop:
"A fantastic way to communicate my ideas to clients in a fresh, new way which am sure will be effective. Also, learning to draw again was a real highlight, giving me a lovely sense of achievement, thanks!"
"This was obviously a really well prepared workshop which flowed very smoothly - materials were great. Loved the venue. Food was great - probably just a bit too much of it!"
"Great class, great format, and have already started recommending it to others."
"Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed your class the other day. I got so much out of it, and loved the simple techniques you taught us. It’s been so long since I have done anything so remotely creative, and it was just such a refreshing change."
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
We recommend getting public transport to the venue, as parking along High Street in Thornbury is tricky (most spots are 1 hour). The venue is very close to Thornbury Station, and tram 86 goes right past (get off near the corner of Mansfield St or Blythe St).
If you are driving, your best bet is to find a park along the train line, near Thornbury Station. And if you're coming by taxi, Nest Coworking is about 9km from the CBD (20-25 minutes).
What should I bring to the event?
You won't need to bring any equipment—all materials will be provided. Just your smiling face and an eagerness to learn.
What's the plan for lunch?
The price of admission includes lunch and a delicious tea or coffee from Northern Soul café, a few doors down from Nest Coworking.
But I'm gluten intolerant/lactose intolerant/vegetarian/vegan/fussy about what I eat...
No worries at all—just be sure to let us know in the survey that we'll send out a few days before the event. We can be flexible and will make sure there's plenty of stuff for everyone to eat. We don't want you going hungry!
Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?
If you have any questions, feel free to hit us up using this contact form.
Is my registration/ticket transferrable?
Yes—if you can't make it on the day, there's no problem with sending along your co-worker, husband, wife, dog, cat, or canary. Come to think of it, we've never had a canary in a workshop. But there's a first time for everything!
What is the refund policy?
We'll gladly provide a refund up until 72 hours before the event. Unfortunately, we can't offer any refunds within 72 hours of the workshop starting.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
That's cool, Brian. You don't mind if we call you Brian, do you?
