Course Outline/Aim
This introductory session equips CHSP providers with the knowledge and confidence to apply supported decision-making principles in everyday practice. By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the principles and intent behind supported decision-making within the aged care system
- Distinguish between supported and substitute decision-making and understand when each applies
- Demonstrate how to uphold the rights, dignity, and autonomy of older people when providing CHSP services
- Identify practical approaches for embedding SDM in daily interactions and service delivery
- Recognise their roles and responsibilities under the New Aged Care Act 2024, CHSP Manual, and Strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards
- Respond appropriately when clients experience fluctuating or diminished capacity, using least-restrictive and rights-aligned approaches
