Event description

Description

This workshop is an introduction to holistic stormwater management, it covers the drivers for stormwater management and an introduction to water quality treatment science.

The course is presented by Mark Liebman from Sustainability Workshop and Carl Tippler from CTENVIRONMENTAL. Carl is an aquatic and riparian ecologist and is recognised as an innovative leader in urban ecosystem monitoring and management. Mark's an experienced and innovative drainage engineer whose technical skills are brilliantly complimented by Carl's environmental understanding.

The workshop should appeal to Council designers, drainage engineers, stormwater and catchment managers and regulatory staff

Workshop content:

  1. Introduction to the 'urban stream syndrome'. What is it? What drives it? What are the impacts of it?
  2. So why do we manage stormwater?
  3. The socio-ecological system. How does stormwater management, livability and ecosystem services fit together?
  4. Design and management considerations to benefit the wider community
  5. Flows and stream erosion. We will consider stormwater quantity, designing for water quantity and its impacts – it is not all about quality at all.
  6. Stormwater Treatment Processes. This session includes a discussion of treatment trains – what they are and how to design one.
  7. The Stormwater Australia Draft Stormwater Quality Improvement Device Evaluation Protocol (SQIDEP). This covers the science of measurement of water quality and how to “filter” for the truth from proprietors.
