What We'll Do

6.15 pm - Connect - Doors Open

Please bring your surplus produce, plants, seeds, books, craft supplies, tools etc. to share with others on the Share Table. Place your donations on the table when you arrive, and then sharing will open at 7.45 pm after the LEARN session.

6.30 pm - Learn - Introduction to RetroSuburbia

Presented by Debbie Bassingthwaighte

RetroSuburbia brings to life David Holmgren’s vision of a sustainable, productive and vibrant permaculture lifestyle right in the suburbs where we live.

  • Are you looking to create a more sustainable and resilient household?
  • Do you want to grow food, reduce your energy use and have a more satisfying, fulfilling life?

Debbie is a Registered RetroSuburbia Facilitator, and these themes from David Holmgren’s book RetroSuburbia: the downshifters guide to a resilient future will be explored in this introductory workshop.

Learn practical and positive solutions for retrofitting our homes, gardens and households, and to build and empower resilient individuals and communities.

RetroSuburbia focuses on creating stronger, happier and more resilient households as we face climate and energy uncertainties. This introduction will provide an overview of the ways households and families can live in a meaningful, productive way that reduces dependence on fossil fuels, the industrial food system, and the consumer economy.

Debbie is a teacher and designer with a deep interest in permaculture-inspired self-reliance and resilience. Motivated by vivid childhood memories of tasting food plucked fresh from the garden, she enjoys growing and preserving abundant organic produce with her husband Brodie in their own backyard. With an insatiable curiosity and passion for learning, she’s been an educator for 40+ years, and feels privileged to nurture the limitless potential of learners at her home-based teaching practice, Optimise Learning.

7.45 pm - Connect - Light Supper and Share Table

A light supper will be served (Gluten Free and Vegan options).

Sharing of produce opens after the presentation to allow plenty of time for everyone to place their donations on the Share Table, and then give you the opportunity to browse, connect and make your selections during supper.
