 Introduction to Reading Workshop

Mini Course

Facilitated by Lisa Burman

Series of 2 Saturday Sessions

Are you interested in moving beyond children reading through a series of levelled texts?

Do you want to find ways to engage young readers in deep thinking about reading?

Do you love teaching through a Writing Workshop approach and are curious about how this can be transferred to teaching children to be active, engaged readers?

Hundreds of educators have now participated in our Introduction to Bookmaking & Introduction to Writer's Notebooks Mini Courses. This is the perfect accompaniment! A Reading Workshop approach embraces the pedagogical principals you love in Writing Workshop/Bookmaking and creates a 'book club' culture in your sites.

This day is suitable for teachers working in Primary School settings

In this workshop, Lisa will share with you:

  • The importance of teaching habits of active reading
  • Research about the most effective teaching of reading
  • Ways to build a culture of thinking about reading in your learning environment
  • The benefits of intentional teaching of comprehension strategies
  • Ways to teach the meta-language important for developing a culture of thinking with young readers

Registration is for the following 2 Saturdays:

Saturday 8 February 2020 - 9:30am - 3:00pm

Saturday 29 February 2020 - 9:30am - 3:00pm
